Christian Bale Talks About Heath Ledger

Christian Bale, Details magazineIn the upcoming issue of Details magazine, tells us why we’ll never see him in romantic comedies, details his first experience in the Batsuit and his explains his thoughts about “self-destructing on purpose.” Bale also chats a bit about his Dark Knight co-star, Heath Ledger.

“He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back. Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it—just getting dirtier than anybody’s envisioned the Joker before. This character has power because he has no limits—absolutely nothing to lose.”

When asked how Ledger’s death has impacted his view of the film, Bale added, “Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him—and expected to do so. And I can’t do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work.”

opens in theaters on July 18. Until then, Bale lovers can purchase their copy of Details on June 3.

Terminator Sequel More Family-Friendly

Christian Bale, Terminator

In hopes of broadening their movie’s audience, the producers of have announced they’re aiming for a PG-13 stamp.  This move would be a departure from the first three installments which were all rated R.

Devotees of the series might find this bit of news a little upsetting.  Would a dialed-down film also mean a watered-down Terminator?  Meanwhile, younger fans of the series are probably thrilled by this announcement.  Now they’ll get to follow along on the big screen.

Warner Bros. Releases Dark Knight Trailer No. 3

Latest Harvey Dent teaserAs everyone and their mother rushed to the theaters to see this weekend, they were in for quite a surprise as the latest teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Batman series played prior to the film.

Ever since the first screenings of Iron Man, bootleg versions of the trailer have appeared on YouTube; The Dark Knight team seems to have wanted to nip that in the butt quickly, as they ended up posting it on their official site this past weekend, which you can see after the jump.

Although the campaign for the film has bombarded us with clips and images of Heath Ledger‘s character, Joker, very little has been spoken of Aaron Eckhart‘s Harvey Dent, who ultimately becomes Two-Face. That is, of course, until this trailer, where if you look close enough, you’re able to see the scars on the side of his face when he’s holding up the gun.

Folks over at Warner Bros. just continue to keep us entertained, as they had just released new teaser posters a mere couple weeks ago (which can be viewed at Omelete). The film is set to be released in theaters July 18, 2008.

Sequel News: Bourne Series, Transporter, Terminator

Put Description HereAlthough many critics had hoped would be seriously considered for a Best Film award, the thriller did walk away with three statues at Sunday’s Academy Awards.  (The movie won for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound mixing.)  Now it appears the Bourne series could have a another chance at even more nominations.

According to Variety, Universal is already planning a fourth installment for the action franchise.  Better yet - director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon will also be on board.  This news comes as surprise to many.  Even though the trilogy definitely had an audience and respect, it appeared that the story could have run its course.  In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in August, Damon admitted that the long production was basically being written on the fly.

No projected release date has been announced yet.  Both Greengrass and Damon have other commitments to attend to first.

Will Christian Bale and Johnny Depp Face Off?

Christian BaleJohnny Depp

, the director credited with bringing one of the most buzzed about matchups to the big screen, may be set to do it again.  Thirteen years after and squared off (briefly) in 1995’s Heat, another electrifying pair is in talks to do the same.  With any luck, you may soon be seeing with at a theater near you.

Bale, 33, and Depp, 44 - arguably two of the most respected and exciting actors working today - have been named as possibles for , the adaptation of a Brian Burrough’s book.  The film would pit Depp, as notorious bank robber John Dillinger, against Melvin Purvis (Bale).  Purvis was the FBI agent who eventually brought the notorious bank robber down in 1934.

If all goes as planned, the two actors will begin production with Mann later this winter.

This Week on HD DVD and Blu-ray: January 08, 2008

Zodiac HD DVDThis week marks the release of the first batch of high-definition DVDs since on-the-fence Warner landed decidedly on the Blu side; I must admit, as an HD DVD man, the day feels a bit colder than normal. But no matter—the format war is far from over.

On a lighter note, both formats have some exciting titles to speak of, including the Blu-ray release of one of my favorite movies from 2007, Sunshine; Roman Polanski’s Oscar-winning film, The Pianist, on HD DVD; and the long-awaited special edition of David Fincher’s Zodiac, also on HD DVD. The DVD release from July contained nary a special feature, so this two-disc director’s cut ought to please those Fincher fans waiting for a decent version.

Christian Bale to Play John Connor in Terminator 4

Black and white Bale According to Ain’t it Cool News, The Dark Knight himself has landed the role of grown-up John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

As I glanced over the film’s imdb page, the seemingly random advert for the Rescue Dawn DVD flashing across the screen felt auspiciously ironic.

I never saw the third installment of the Terminator franchise, though the recently announced trilogy and Fox’s Sarah Connor Chronicles lead me to believe there’s still a growing fan base; bringing Bale on board will only strengthen T4‘s chances of success. With director McG (Charlie’s Angels, We Are Marshall) at the helm, and as long as a decent script surfaces and the aging Governator keeps his small cameo small, this casting news may bring a glint of hope to the future of the Terminator series.

Look for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins in theaters sometime in June of 2009.

UPDATE: Devin Faraci over at CHUD is now reporting that his source pegged Bale as the Terminator, and other buzz regarding the issue may point to another character entirely. Stayed
